Capt. William Collins
Calais
On July 18, 1864 Capt. William Collins of the Fifteenth Mississippi Regiment, accompanied by two fellow Confederates and a Union deserter, crossed the border from St. John, New Brunswick and strode into the Calais Bank intent on robbing the bank. Citizens had heard rumors of possible Confederate activity in the area and had prepared themselves. The would be robbers were quickly disarmed and taken to jail.
