Institution description
The Arctic Museum is a small and intimate museum on the Bowdoin College campus that focuses on all things Arctic. It is named after Robert E. Peary and Donald B. MacMillan, two famous Arctic explorers who are also Bowdoin alumni. Museum exhibits change throughout the year and feature the history of American Arctic exploration, the natural history of the Arctic, Inuit cultures, and historic and contemporary Inuit art. Arctic animals such as polar bears, walrus, caribou and musk ox are always on view. The museum has major research collections (photography, film, exploration, Inuit and Innu artifacts, Canadian and Alaskan Inuit art).
