 The Executive Director of the Patten Lumbermen’s Museum serves as the chief executive officer, responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and management of the museum. This role ensures the preservation, interpretation, and promotion of the region’s rich lumbering history, while fostering community engagement and financial sustainability.

  • Key Responsibilities:

  • ·       Oversee daily operations, including staff management, volunteer coordination, and facility maintenance.
  • ·       Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and professional standards.
  • ·       Manage the museum’s collections, ensuring proper care, documentation, and interpretation.
  • ·       Develop and oversee engaging exhibitions and educational programs.
  • ·       Develop and implement fundraising strategies, including grant writing, donor relations, membership drives, and special events.
  • ·       Prepare and manage annual budgets, monitor financial performance, and report to the Board of Directors.
  • ·       Build partnerships with local organizations, schools, and community groups.
  • ·       Serve as the public face of the museum, representing it at events and in media, and through marketing and communications initiatives.  
  • ·       Oversee creation of publications and advertising, and maintain the Museum website. 
  • ·       Oversee and manage Museum store, both retail and online. 
  • ·       Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors, providing regular updates on museum activities and procedures, and seeking guidance on major initiatives.
  • Qualifications:

  • ·       Experience in a museum, nonprofit, educational, and/or similar setting.
  • ·       Proven skills in fundraising, financial management, and staff supervision.
  • ·       Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • ·       Passion for local history and cultural preservation.

This position is year-around full-time, with some evening and weekend hours required for events and programs during the open season. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and supervises all museum staff and volunteers.  Salary range from $30K to $45K.
