Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Museum and Archive Professionals
An Online Workshop
This 60-minute introductory workshop supports staff and volunteers of archives and museums who want to learn about human differences and their impacts. Through dialogue and self-reflection, participants will gain new vocabulary and improve their ability to see and respond to bias and bigotry in their everyday lives.
Participants will be asked to consider how our differences—such as race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, class, and ability—shape our life experiences; how these differences impact individuals and communities; and how learned beliefs and institutional culture can make workplaces more or less welcoming and inclusive.
We will reflect on our professional commitments to co-workers, volunteers, and guests and how we can better support others through our choices, words, and actions.
Dr. Gabriel Piser is co-founder of Big Sky Education and Strategy, an organization that works collaboratively with young people, educators, and institutional leaders to develop innovative programs, increase communication around difficult topics, and identify big-picture organizational solutions. He has over 15 years of experience as an educator, researcher, and manager in the fields of diversity and inclusion, social-emotional learning, and adult education. He holds a doctorate in Comparative Studies from the Ohio State University, an MA in Philosophy from Binghamton University, and a BA in Sociology from Earlham College. Gabriel is an expert facilitator with thousands of hours of experience leading groups through challenging conversations and reflective processes. He also has over a decade of experience teaching at the post-secondary level. At conferences, colleges, and schools across the country he has helped young people and adults explore important topics like racial bias, gender and sexuality, conflict resolution, and intergenerational understanding. As a facilitator, he brings a unique blend of rigor, humor, and sensitivity to trainings and workshops.
Attending an Online Workshop
To participate in this online workshop you will need access to a computer or mobile device with an internet connection. We will be using Zoom to host this workshop as an online videoconference. Once you register, you will immediately be sent instructions for logging in via automatically sent email.
If you do not have access to a computer or mobile device with an internet connection, you will still be able to call in on a telephone, but you will unfortunately not be able to see any of the participants or visuals.

Folks who register early will receive optional short readings and videos ahead of the event to maximize their learning experience during the workshop.
The fee for members is $15. Non-members pay $25.
